Hey everyone! I’ve been keeping an eye on the county meetings this week, and I have some great news to share. If you own a home in Montgomery County, MD —especially near Wheaton, MD—you’re going to like this :).
1. No Property Tax Hike! (For Now)
Great news for your wallet: The County Council just tentatively voted NO on the big property tax increase. They want to keep your taxes flat this year, which is a huge win for homeowners and anyone looking to buy right now.
2. Wheaton is Getting a "Glow-Up."
The county just officially started "The Wheaton Plan." They are looking to turn those big old parking lots near the Metro into beautiful parks, new shops, and local housing. If you live within a mile of the Wheaton Metro, your neighborhood is about to get much more "walkable" and valuable!
3. Bigger Backyard Cottages are Coming
We are getting closer to the June 9th hearing for the new ADU rules. The goal is to let you build a backyard cottage or basement suite that is up to 75% of the size of your house. This is a game-changer if you want your adult kids to move back or if you want to keep your parents close but in their own space.
Why does this matter?
The county is finally making it easier for us to use our land to support our families and earn some extra income. Whether you're staying put or considering selling, these changes are making your property more valuable.
